Our Story

On a balmy evening in March 2024, in a flat in Mumbai, India, a group of actors and theatre workers raised the question "How to make an affordable theatre of excellence in Mumbai?"  Mumbai is not a cheap city to live in. Rentals are high and as such, rentals for professional environments to create and present works in are also high.

As a group of artists who are established in their fields, what was soon to become the Theatre Makers committed to four simple aims:

1.  Make Theatre that satisfies the creative drive

2.  Make Theatre that is committed to excellence in text, acting and direction

3.  Make Theatre that challenges and entertains a discerning audience

4.  Make Theatre.

The Theatre Makers have now formally come together as a cooperative, profit-share group with a business strategy that is informed by their original aims and is managed responsibly and concerning the talents and experience of the artists who work under the collective banner.  The group will steadfastly focus on works that are challenging and appropriate to committed professionals and will present these works in environments that are conducive to theatre performance but will not break the bank.  The goal is to be artistically satisfied.

All members of The Theatre Makers are independent artists who come together to create work. The members are not exclusive to The Theatre Makers and work independently across all sectors of the performing arts industry.

Do you want to support the Arts and don't know how to?

Become a Patron of the Arts

Patrons of the arts play a crucial role in India's cultural and artistic landscape, providing essential support that fosters creativity and innovation. Their contributions enable artists to pursue their craft without the constraints of financial insecurity, allowing for the production of works that might otherwise remain unrealized.

Patrons facilitate the preservation and promotion of rich heritage, ensuring that traditional art forms continue to thrive alongside contemporary expressions.

By investing in the arts, patrons help cultivate a vibrant cultural ecosystem that not only enhances societal well-being but also positions India as a global hub of artistic excellence.

Their support extends beyond mere financial assistance; it encompasses advocacy, networking, and the creation of platforms that bring art to wider audiences, thus enriching the cultural fabric of the nation and inspiring future generations of artists.

How can you be a Patron?

One can become a patron of the arts through Sponsorship or Investment, each offering unique avenues to support and nurture the artistic community.

As a sponsor, individuals or organizations provide financial backing for specific events, exhibitions, performances, or projects. This can include funding for festivals and theater productions, enabling artists to showcase their work to broader audiences. Sponsorship often comes with the benefit of public recognition and association with prestigious cultural events, enhancing the sponsor's image and reach.

Alternatively, as an investor, a patron can support the arts by funding emerging artists or artistic ventures with the expectation of a potential financial return. This might involve supporting theatrical productions.
Such investments not only provide artists with the necessary resources to create and innovate but also offer patrons a stake in the commercial success of the artworks or artistic projects they support.

Both sponsorship and investment are vital in sustaining the arts, ensuring that creativity continues to flourish and enrich society.
