Teaching and Training
RETURNING IN 2025
About My Teaching
I train actors to be disciplined, employable, and committed artists, centred on their development as self-determined contemporary professionals.
My teaching is rooted in over 40 years in the performing arts as an actor and director, following my training at the prestigious WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).
At WAAPA, I studied under masters such as Lisle Jones, Aarne Neeme, Annie Stainer, and Chris Edmunds, following Robert Benedetti’s actor training structure. Lisle’s mantra—"Show me, don't tell me"—still guides my work, alongside the teachings of Benedetti, Anne Bogart, Declan Donnellan, Uta Hagen, Cicely Berry, and Stella Adler.
I embrace four core principles as an acting teacher:
-
Hands-on expertise gained through experience
-
Detailed and precise script analysis and interpretation
-
The physical and incorporeal superiority of the artist
-
Transforming story, words and imagination into compelling stage action
As an elder in my field, my passion for teaching is stronger than ever, driven by a mission to instil discipline, imagination, and a rigorous approach to acting. My techniques draw primarily from Stanislavski and his philosophical descendants including Meisner and M. Chekhov, alongside Viewpoints, Cicely Berry and Kristin Linklater’s voice work, and other's methodologies and techniques that I’ve embraced and developed in my career as an Artist.

Professional Development
I am a true believer that the secret to reaching our full potential as artists in theatre and film is to remain 'performance fit' and to always be ready to learn... at any stage of our careers.
We must look for ways to constantly evolve our talents and craft and to create new opportunities for ourselves and nurture our competitive edge..
I love working with hungry artists in a studio environment and have development sessions that suit beginners through to established artists.
Mentoring
Mentoring emerging and/or young artists and organisations has been a career-long joy for me. I revel in being in the company of young artists who are ready to conquer the world and I believe it is our responsibility as older artists to share our experiences in the hope that new and diversified arts emerge.
Contact me if you’d like to grab a coffee and talk about how a mentor relationship can work.
